Associate of Arts

The completion of an Associate of Arts (AA) degree at Zane State College equips students to transfer to a four-year college or university to pursue a baccalaureate degree.  A minimum of 90 credit hours is required to receive an AA.  Students focus on general education courses in the areas of English and oral communication, mathematics, natural science, arts and humanities, and social and behavioral sciences.  An emphasis is placed on Ohio’s Transfer Module requirements, which enable students to maximize transferability between Zane State College and other colleges and universities in Ohio.  To complete the degree, students choose electives from among the wide range of courses offered at Zane State.  Areas of concentration are in development.  Students are encouraged to discuss their goals with an advisor early on to work together to develop a plan of study in order to meet the requirements of the college or university to which the student plans to transfer.

How do the new Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees differ from Zane State College’s technical degrees?

Zane State College’s programs provide students with the opportunity to earn an associate’s degree while participating in experienced-based learning in a chosen field.  The degrees are specifically designed to prepare students to immediately enter the job market.

With the new transfer degrees, you will concentrate on the introductory classes—or the first two years—of your bachelor’s degree.  Once you complete your degree, you will be ready to transfer to a four-year college or university.

Graduation Requirements
Earn a minimum of 90 credit hours of course work.

Complete IDS 101, College Success Strategies

Pass a computer skills proficiency exam or take an approved computer course

Complete a minimum of 60 credit hours of Transfer Module (TM) courses in appropriate distributions:

English Composition/Oral Communication – 13 hours of required courses

Mathematics – 4 hours of approved TM courses

Natural Sciences – 8 hours of approved TM courses

Choose an additional 4 hours of an approved TM course from either mathematics or natural science to meet the AA degree requirement

Arts and Humanities – 20 hours of approved TM courses (courses must be taken in at least two subject areas)

Social Sciences – 16 hours of approved TM courses (courses must be taken in at least two subject areas)

Select additional courses at the 100 level or above to meet the 90 credit hours required for the degree based on:

the chosen curriculum

the academic requirements of the institution to which the student plans to transfer

the approval of the academic advisor

Complete 30 credit hours of coursework at Zane State College

Maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher
