Zane State College Accounting students captured a number of top awards recently at the Business Professionals of American (BPA) National Leadership Conference in Reno, Nevada.

Ethel Krieg of Zanesville received first place in Fundamental Accounting and Financial Math and Analysis. She won second place in Payroll Accounting. Zanesville resident Michael George received second place in Fundamental Accounting and Philo resident Kimberly Mayle placed seventh in Payroll Accounting.

"It caught me by surprise," said George of his win. "I didn’t think I had a chance, but when I got to the competition I found out how well our instructor had prepared us."

Ten accounting students were qualified to advance to the national competition, making Zane State College the best performing college in the state BPA conferences. Four of the ten qualifying students attended the national competition.
