Zane State College Recognizes Phi Theta Kappa Inductees

Family, friends, and Zane State College employees gathered recently to celebrate as students were inducted into the Zane State College chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), the international honorary society for associate degree-seeking college students.

Dr. Paul Brown, president of Zane State College, emphasized that the inductees should feel great pride for their achievements.  “Many of you work, have families, or have some other situation in your life that made getting to this point an uphill battle,” said Dr. Brown. “You persevered and, now, your induction into Phi Theta Kappa is a signal to everyone that you have accomplished what very few people have accomplished.”

PTK’s mission is to recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students. To be accepted into the Zane State Chapter of PTK, students must earn a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and have completed at least 24 credit hours of college coursework. PTK also provides opportunities for individual growth and development through participation in honors, leadership, service and fellowship programming.

“I hope each of you to continue to embrace the love of learning,” said keynote speaker Barb Murray, Chapter Relations Advisor from the Phi Theta Kappa International Headquarters.  “I encourage you to follow in the footsteps of the millions of successful Phi Theta Kappans who hold professional positions and run successful businesses around the world.”
